Which whirlybird would you buy?

If you’ve got a few thousand dollars lying around and are not sure what to do with it, and you happen to be a massive helicopter geek, now is the time to look into the second hand helicopter market.

We have extensively covered the up-and-coming market for ex-US Military UH-60A Black Hawks after seeing three in civil configurations at Heli-Expo in Louisville, Kentucky.

And, as I’m sure you are aware, the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm recently ended its role in UK SAR and the Sea King Mk5 aircraft have now been stood down. On top of this the Royal Navy is also retiring its Sea King Mk4s – better known as the Junglie.

So the question is, would you rather have a Black Hawk or a Sea King? Let us know in the comments below.

The price tag for a second hand Black Hawk is coming in at $200,000 (£139,150) while you can buy a used Sea King for £150,000 ($215,590).

This is the cost for a fully operational aircraft. Some entrepreneurs are simply purchasing the carcass of old Sea Kings and turning them into holiday homes.
